Healthy Wrangell Coalition seeking new logo

The community’s coalition for health and wellness organizations is looking for a new image.

The Healthy Wrangell Coalition has announced a sort of logo contest, through which it hopes to make its activities more recognizable to the community at large.

“We’ve kind of been operating under the radar for a while,” explained Kris Reed, with HWC. “Folks don’t really know who we are and what we do, and that we’re available for things like letters of support for grants.”

Member organizations include Alaska Island Community Services, Wrangell Medical Center, the public school district, U.S. Forest Service, Wrangell Cooperative Association IGAP, SEARHC, Parks and Recreation, Alaska Public Health and the Ministerial Association – area groups that are related to health, education, recreation and public safety.

The voluntary group has been meeting since 2010, and gets together midday the

second Tuesday of each month. The HWC’s monthly meetings work as a place to coordinate cross-organizational support for different public projects

and promoting healthy lifestyles.

“It’s a place for us to get together and disseminate information from meetings,” Reed explained.

In looking for a logo, the group would like an image hearkening to that cooperative health and wellness focus, preferably one in a simple, two- or three-color format that can also be grey-scaled.

As the group has no budget or funding allotted to it, no material prize is being offered for the winning logo design. The chosen design will be used for such things as letters of support, event banners and promotional materials.

The deadline is Feb. 8, ahead of the group’s next meeting. Submissions should be sent in to kristen.reed@wrangellmedical.org or dropped off at Reed’s office in the hospital.
