Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

I think it’s highly unfair to allow boys to compete with girls in most physical competitions. Even in the Olympics men and women are separated in events because, for the most part, men will be stronger and faster. They are built

differently. Regardless of how this boy feels, he still has

male parts, and the strength and speed of a male, thus giving him an advantage. Put

this same boy in the male event and I can guarantee that he would not have placed third especially if two females beat him.

To the Editor:

Wrangell has a blessing in Sylvia Ettefagh, and her husband John with the annual BearFest project. These two have dedicated unselfishness with their time in promoting Wrangell as a destination.

Yes, surely they draw a living from this involvement yet it is the unlimited time and personal contributions that reflect their success as a business and as a marriage partnership reflected in such efforts.

Over the past several years, as a visiting golfer from Ketchikan and many years ago, resident of Wrangell, who makes Reliance Float my visiting temporary home on my boat, I have daily occasion to meet and greet with both Sylvia and John. There is not an occasion that the message of good will for Wrangell is not a part of the conversation.

BearFest is but one

contribution of these two. They are active in the total visitor experience including participating with the visiting cruise ships.

I recently was made aware of their gracious contribution in the form of support for the local golf course in terms of

including that activity of which they have no personally

gain but handle the inclusion which benefits the course with fiscal funding in their cruise ship passenger activities.

I take my hat off to Sylvia and her community efforts.
