Obituary: Matt Thompson, 50

Matt Thompson, 50, died in Wrangell on June 24, 2016.

He was born on December 24, 1965 in Petersburg, Alaska to Jim and Clara Thompson. They moved in 1968 and made their home in Wrangell.

Matt loved to fish, hunt, camp and boat, however the one thing he cherished the most was spending time with his family and friends, catching up on what was happening with them.

For the most part of his career he worked in the construction industry all over the state for many different companies. He had a good work ethic, and made many friends along the way.

Matt had a gift of remembering stories told to him about the history of his home towns and the fishing industry from the "old timers" as he would say.

Matt will be missed by the many people he touched in his short life. We will all miss his infectious smile, quick wit, good comebacks, his great personality, not to mention the good company and conversations.

He was preceded in death by his mother Clara, grandparents Kurt and Clara Nordgren, and grandparents Leon and Lorene Thompson.

He is survived by his father Jim Thompson, and many aunts, uncles and cousins and all of his many friends.

A celebration of life will be held in Wrangell Friday, August 19 at 2 pm at the Elks Lodge. A graveside service will be held in Petersburg Saturday, August 20 at 3 pm with a gathering to follow at the Moose Lodge.

The Stikine Sportsman Association was a big part of Matt's life and donations can be made in his name.
