Obituary: Dan Wickman, 73

Dan Wickman, 73, left this earth on May 1, 2017.

Born September 29, 1943 in Wrangell, Alaska to Robert and Helena Wickman, Dan was a Native Alaskan and member of the Tlinget tribe, as well as a Vietnam War veteran.

He was an avid crabber, fisherman, and hunter and had an unparalleled knowledge of construction related skills: electrical, plumbing, heating systems, and remodeling.

Dan was captain of the Wrangell Fire Department, an EMT, and EMT instructor and a member of the Southeast Alaska EMS Board. He was a licensed electrician and HAVAC person for 17 years. He was Maintenance Supervisor for the Wrangell School District for five years before venturing in 1990 to the Stanwood/Camano School District in Washington. He retired from the Stanwood Camano school district in 2010. He also volunteered for three years on the Stanwood/Camano Fair Board.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Robert Wickman, mother Helena Barr (Chris), stepfather Gordon (Grandpa Gordon) Buness and Lorraine (Gramma Lorraine) Buness.

He is survived by the love of his wife Paula; sons Douglas (Sheila) and Darren (Jessica); grandchildren, Sierra, Sabannah, and Daniel.

The oldest of seven, he is survived by: brothers and sisters: Robert Wickman, Jr. (Cheri), Maxlyn Wiederspohn (Rick), Bette Ann (Penny) Moriarity (Bill), Darlene Harding (Bruce), Charles Dewitt (Toni), and Tim Buness (Chris).

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 28 from 2-5 pm, where family and friends can drop in for refreshments and to talk and share remembrances at the Shoemaker Park Shelter.
