December 25, 1942: To our boys on the fighting fronts, this Christmas edition of the Sentinel is dedicated. Many of you are far from home. Some of you are fighting in the Solomon’s, some of you in the Aleutians, some on the sub infested seas, others on the African fronts, and in a hundred other places in this global war. Perhaps another Christmas will see you at home to observe the occasion in the traditional manner. We miss a lot of you walking by the Sentinel office, often dropping in to pass the time of day. We were just talking about it around the shop tonight while we were working on this edition, wondering where some of you are, what you are doing. You bet, we miss you here at home, but we are mighty proud of the great job you are doing out there. You are doing the big job, dying if necessary so all of us can have a free world, the kind you and the rest of us know is the only kind worth having. So to you, our fighting men, we dedicate this edition of The Sentinel. You can be sure that every sentiment expressed herein by the firms and individuals goes double for you. Best of everything, gang, and we hope we’ll be seeing you soon.
