BRAVE is a Wrangell-based organization that works to connect people with resources to help themselves and their families. Their work was put on display last Tuesday night at the Nolan Center as a "family resilience fair" was held. The fair brought together about 20 organizations that offered one form of support for Wrangell families or another. The organizations ranged from religious groups, medical organizations, government entities, and sports groups. Organizations that participated include SEARHC, the Irene Ingle Public Library, Wrangell's AAU basketball teams, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, Hannah's Place, the Forest Service, Community Roots, and many other groups.
Maleah Wenzel, one of the main organizers of the event, said that the fair was also an opportunity to introduce people to Eryn Ruppert, a women's advocate with WISH (Women In Safe Homes.) Ruppert will soon begin to visit Wrangell on a monthly basis to offer support for local women in need.
Besides providing information to families about what their groups were and how they could help, organizations participating in the fair provided snacks and fun games to play. Many Wrangell businesses and individuals pitched in, too, by providing door prizes.
