At the meeting of Alaska Labor Union No. 10 to be held Saturday night delegates will be elected to the first territorial convention of the Alaska Labor Union, which will convene in Juneau Oct. 10. At present there is no territorial organization of the Union. The first chapter was organized at Anchorage there years ago, and that local has taken the lead in the affairs of the union. The officers of the Wrangell local are particularly desirous that there be as large an attendance as possible Saturday night in order that all may have a voice in the selection of delegates.

Tommy Maxand, 10 years old, had a narrow escape last Sunday when he fell into the bay off a local dock. Tommy was sitting on his bicycle on the edge of the pier when he suddenly lost his balance and plunged over the side, still astride the bike when he hit the water. He swam to the Anny Tuck which was moored nearby and was pulled aboard.

Even his bicycle was fished out of the depths and restored to him. Tommy is one of the Sentinel sellers and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Maxand. Fortunately he suffered no ill effects from the accident.

Store owners Bryant Benjamin and Ben Curtis kicked off a food drive with several churches in town with a goal of 600 cases of food by Christmas. Benjamin’s Supermarket and City Market, Inc. will offer any customer a 10 percent discount on case lots to be donated to the drive. Feeling the mill closure could create serious problems for some laid off workers this winter, the project was originated by the Salvation Army and First Presbyterian Church.
