The Wrangell Lady Wolves volleyball team held their first home games of the season against the Petersburg Lady Vikings last week, on Nov. 15. It was senior night, meaning that the team recognized their soon-to-be-graduating senior players between the JV and varsity games. The Lady Wolves have two senior players this year, Tasha Massin (No. 5) and Kaylyn Easterly (No. 3).
Coach Alyssa Allen said that both girls are dedicated players, mentioning that they have played multiple positions on the team over the years, depending on where they were needed. She also said that they are hard workers on and off the court, and always have positive attitudes.
"Our team's definitely going to miss you guys here," she said.
Massin and Easterly both mentioned appreciation for the coaches, teammates, their friends and families, and also recently-retired coach Jessica Whitaker. Senior players on the Lady Vikings were also briefly recognized including Kianna Kivisto (No. 4), Brooklyn Dormer (No. 5), and Miranda Nilsen (No. 6).
Wrangell's home games went heavily in their favor. The JV team went undefeated against Petersburg in four sets. The varsity team won their first game against Petersburg. It was a close game, with Petersburg scoring first and staying neck-and-neck with the Lady Wolves for most of the game. Wrangell won, however, with a score of 25-23. Petersburg won the second game with a score of 18-25. The final two games of the varsity sets went to Wrangell 25-18 and 27-25.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, Petersburg hosted home games of their own against the Lady Wolves. Petersburg won three sets in a row against Wrangell with scores of 25-15, 15-22, and 25-23.
Wrangell was also host to this year's regional tournament, from Nov. 18 to 20. The Wrangell Sentinel will print results from Regionals in next week's paper.
