Lady Wolves end season on high note, says coach

With one loss, two wins, and one forfeit, the

Wrangell Lady Wolves ended their season at Regionals this past week. The Lady Wolves went into Regionals with a second place seed, after a

strong performance all season. Coach Laurie Brown said she was proud of how her team did in Regionals, and all year long.

The team went up against third-place seed Petersburg first. It was a tough game, Brown said, losing badly to the Lady Vikings. While they did not win, she said that it was a good wake up call for the team, which got their act together for the remainder of the tournament.

"Not a good game for us," she said.

Their next game was against the Haines Glacier Bears. The Lady Wolves dominated that game, winning with a score of 58-17. After that, they moved up the bracket to play against Craig High School. This was another victory for Wrangell, with a score of 51-42.

Wrangell was scheduled to play against the Metlakatla Miss Chiefs on Saturday, March 14 for the 2nd-place seed in the state championship. However, growing concerns about the COVID-19 Coronavirus led the Wrangell School District to decide to bring the Lady Wolves home early, along with the boys' team. Brown said she was not sure if they would have beaten Metlakatla to go on to State, but she felt confident in her team's abilities. The point was moot, however, as the state championship was cancelled as a precautionary measure against the virus.

"It was hard, especially for our seniors," Brown said. "But the girls did end on a high note."
