Red Squirrels, like this one, can be found in forests across most of the state. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, red squirrels are active all year but may remain in their nests during cold or inclement weather. Now that spring has arrived, and warmer weather with it, all kinds of animals are becoming more active.
