Obituary: Hollis Ellis Hayes, 47

Hollis Ellis Hayes, 47, died on July 18, 2020, in Ketchikan, Alaska.

He was born on Sept. 26, 1972, in Wrangell, Alaska.

He attended Wrangell Elementary School, Wrangell High School, Ketchikan High School and Juneau-Douglas High School.

Hayes resided in Wrangell until 1989, when he relocated to Ketchikan. In 1990, he moved to Juneau for a few years before moving back to Wrangell. He then moved back to Ketchikan.

He worked as a cook at Godfather's Pizza in the late 1990s before working for 15 years as a cook at Annabelle's Famous Keg and Chowder House.

"Hollis was born with a fishing pole in his hand and a pencil in his pocket," his family writes. "He loved camping and spending time with his family. Hollis loved being outdoors or tucked away drawing."

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mike and Alice Hayes; grandmother, Jane Max; grandfather, Kennith Morfeld; and uncle, Allen Hayes.

He is survived by his father; Lansing E. Hayes; mother and stepfather, Mallory and James Hughes; sisters, Neicy Hayes and Zell Gadd; brother, Saffron (Tracey) Hayes; stepson, Thomas Smith; nephews, Travis Hayes and Skylar Hayes; nieces, Teiara Hayes, CharlaMay Hendren and Isla Hayes; uncles, Robert (Rynda) Hayes, Roy (Carol) Hayes, Bud Baker; James (Vickie) Baker; and many cousins and his 2-11 family.

A celebration of life was held on Aug. 1 at Ward Lake in Ketchikan.
