New COVID case, 17 total

The City and Borough of Wrangell announced another confirmed case of COVID-19 this afternoon, Aug. 28.

Like the previous case, the newest case is asymptomatic and was identified through an employee testing program. The patient is in isolation.

This brings the total number of cases in Wrangell to 17, according to the press release. Of these, only two are considered active. Six of the cases have been found in non-locals, while the other 11 were Wrangell residents.

The city’s press release also reports that, according to state documents, another Wrangell resident may have contracted COVID-19, but not while in Wrangell.

“Additionally, yesterday, Wrangell’s Unified Command noticed that State documents attributed one new case of COVID-19 in the community of Wrangell,” the press release reads. “Since Wrangell’s Unified Command had not received official notification of that case, the case may have been a Wrangell resident that tested positive for COVID-19 outside of Wrangell.”
