Family Resilience Fair takes place this month

The third annual Family Resilience Fair will take place later this month, according to Kay Larson. The fair, set up by local nonprofit BRAVE, is designed to bring together different organizations across Wrangell and beyond to help families discover resources that may be available to them. This year's fair will take place on Sept. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Nolan Center.

There are some limitations with the fair this year, Larson said. With the COVID-19 pandemic ongoing, those participating in the fair will be asked to follow safety measures. Among the safety guidelines encouraged by the city, and the state, include wearing face masks, sanitizing one's hands, and keeping one's distance from others. Larson said she preferred to call it "physical distancing" instead of "social distancing," because she wants the community to still come together to support each other, even if people have to physically stay apart for the time being.

"I think the emphasis this year will be on providing any and all resources that would help strengthen families through these difficult and uncertain times," Larson said.

Along with bringing together organizations to show what resources they have available, Larson said that people can expect prizes and drawings to be available. She added that BRAVE is trying to find all of the babies that were born between the previous fair, last September, and this year's. They would like to celebrate these new additions to the community at the fair, as well, she said.

Larson also added that funding to organize the fair has come from the City and Borough of Wrangell. They awarded BRAVE $1,800, she said, and about $600 was used for the Family Resilience Fair.
