First cross country meet of the season

Wrangell's cross country team took part in its first meet of the season last Saturday afternoon. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teams could not travel to compete against each other in person. Instead, a virtual meet was held, where teams ran in their hometowns but still competed against the other teams' times. Seven communities competed, altogether: Wrangell, Petersburg, Haines, Klawock, Craig, Metlakatla, and Unalaska.

For the girls race, Liana Carney took first place for Wrangell, and seventh overall. According to race results, shared by Trisa Rooney, she had a time of 23:41. Jade Balansag came in second place for Wrangell, eighth overall, at 24:20. Third place for Wrangell, and ninth overall, was Brodie Gardner at 24:44. First place overall went to MacKenzy Dryden of Haines, at 20:29.

For the boys race, Elias Decker took first place for Wrangell and twelfth overall at 20:22. Devlyn Campbell took second for Wrangell and sixteenth overall at 20:40. Third place for Wrangell and twenty-second overall was James Shilts, at 21:31. First place overall went to Uriah Lucas of Petersburg, at 17:02.

The next cross country meet will be on Sept. 19 and will either take place in Metlakatla, or will be another virtual meet.
