New COVID case announced last Monday

Around 7 p.m. Monday evening, Sept. 14, the City and Borough of Wrangell announced that the community's 20th case of COVID-19 was confirmed. The latest case was identified in a routine testing program, according to a press release from the city. The patient is asymptomatic and in isolation. Contact tracing is ongoing.

This case is currently the only active one in Wrangell, according to the press release. The other 19 have recovered. Of all the cases, 13 have been Wrangell locals. The other seven were non-locals. The majority of cases have been found through routine testing programs, 13 in all. Four cases were discovered through airport testing, while the remaining three were found through other testing platforms.

"Patients with chronic illnesses, or considered high-risk, should contact their provider immediately if they show symptoms," the press release reads. "Low-risk patients should self-isolate, should they become sick. Continued adherence to virus preventive practices, as well as State and local health mandates, is highly recommended."

The press release adds that free community testing for COVID-19 is available on weekends, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the SEARHC AICS clinic.
