Fallen trees knock out power around 11-mile

Due to stormy weather Wrangell saw through the night and morning of Monday and Tuesday, according to Wrangell Municipal Light & Power, some trees fell onto power lines out Zimovia Highway and caused some outages on Dec. 1.

A Facebook post from the City and Borough of Wrangell announced that power was lost between 9-mile and 13-mile of the highway. Rod Rhoades, WLM&P director, said that they received reports of two fallen trees out the road, at 11.5-mile and 11.75-mile. Rhoades said he had crews out there working to restore power to the area. No poles were lost from the fallen trees, he said, but some cross arms were broken.

As of 3 p.m., Rhoades said that his crews had cleared the trees but were still making repairs. There were several breaks in that area, he said. Their work was also complicated by spotty radio signals to communicate back to the office, he said, and phone service was not an option that far out the road. However, he said he believed they would have things up and running again later in the day.

According to the city, in a Facebook post later that evening, power was restored from 9-mile to 13-mile as of 4:27 p.m. During a borough assembly workshop Borough Manager Lisa Von Bargen said she understood that primary power was restored, but there may be some secondary lines that still need repairs.
