Tentative basketball schedule released

Wrangell High School has provided a schedule for the upcoming basketball season to the Wrangell Sentinel. Trisa Rooney, activities director, said that the schedule is only tentative, as they do not have a full idea of what some other schools are planning. The schedule is subject to change.

"We don't know what Haines or Metlakatla are doing at this time, so we'll let you know when it gets closer and they know what they're doing," she wrote in a Dec. 10 email.

According to the tentative schedule, the season will only have four games prior to regionals and state. This year's basketball season will begin on Jan. 15-16, where Wrangell will face off against rival Petersburg. This will be followed by a bye week, and then a game against Metlakatla on Jan. 29-30. Then Wrangell gets their first home game of the season against Craig on Feb. 5-6. After this, there will be several more bye weeks, until their last regular game of the season at home against Haines on March 5-6. Regionals are scheduled to begin mid-March, with state on April 1-3.

Rooney also added in her email that the high school is planning to participate in a wrestling season in 2021. There is no schedule yet, she said, but wrestling season has been set for March 15 to May 17.
