Sure, the Sentinel's main job is to report the news. But we also want to serve as the community bulletin board. Think of the newspaper as a weekly posting, delivered for everyone to see - even better, you don't need to stand in the wind and rain to read the sheet.
The problem is, our bulletin board has empty space, and that doesn't do anyone any good. We need your events to fill up the board.
We could hand out hundreds of pushpins to stick event notices to the pages of the Sentinel each week. But that would require a lot of Band-Aids.
Even easier, we have set up an online system so that community group members can click and type in their event information on the Sentinel website and see it appear on Page 2 under Wrangell Roundup each week.
No charge, of course.
Just go to the website and click on the CALENDAR tab on the right-hand side near the top. Then click on the green button that says SUBMIT AN EVENT. Fill in the information - leave blank what does not apply - and then click on the green CHECK AND SUBMIT button at the top.
Your calendar item will come to us for proofreading - we'll contact you if we have any questions - and then it will go on the Sentinel website and in the newspaper.
The Wrangell Roundup on Page 2 is available for nonprofits, church groups, school events, public meetings, fundraisers, pretty much anything except private gatherings and commercial businesses. It's OK to submit your events in advance. There is no need to wait until the week of the event to get the word out.
Of course, if you don't like websites, just send us your event in an email to wrgsent@gmail.com. Or drop off your information at the Sentinel office on Front Street.
We want to hear from you so that everyone in the community can hear from you.
