A fun tradition for Wrangell’s grown-ups is returning this Saturday, with the 2021 Adult Prom.
The party will start at 8 p.m. at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course. The prom is an opportunity for locals to get out, dress up and dance the night away, said Lucy Moline-Robinson, with KSTK, which is sponsoring the event as a fundraiser for the radio station.
“I felt there was a need for that, Wrangell doesn’t have a lot of adult-type dances,”she said.
The prom was not held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Robinson said. In 2019, it was held at the Elks Lodge as a fundraiser for the Wrangell High School class of 2021.
This year’s outdoor venue was selected as a safer location, considering the risk of COVID-19, she said.
The entrance fee is $25. Robinson said people can expect music, dancing, food and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Breakaway Adventures is providing its bus for transportation to and from the golf course, so people can get home safely.
The prom’s theme is “Caddyshack,”after the 1980 comedy film. It felt appropriate, Robinson said, given the golf course setting of the prom and the movie. People are encouraged but not obligated to dress to the theme to attend.
“Everyone is welcome,”Robinson said. “I think we all need a little dancing in our lives.”
