St. Frances Animal Rescue appreciates community support

The board and members of St. Frances Animal Rescue would like to thank the many generous members of the Wrangell community for their support. Your donations have helped us sustain the efforts of the rescue to take in stray and surrendered kitties, provide quality care and try to find adoptive homes for cats and dogs. In addition, it has been significant in helping us work toward the goal of relocating the shelter.

It was a busy 2021 with cats continuing to be surrendered, trapped and adopted. We took in 11 adult cats and six kittens. Four adult cats and the kittens were adopted and one was returned to the original owner. St. Frances helped community members with the cost of altering 19 animals. In addition, St. Frances paid for the altering of eight more animals that were surrendered to the shelter. And again last year, St. Frances helped with the rehoming of a dog.

As you may know, a private donor has committed to matching every dollar earned by the rescue between Nov. 1, 2021, and Nov. 1, 2022, up to $10,000. Between Nov. 1, 2021, and Feb. 13, 2022, you donated $7,400. Thanks to the community groups and individuals who participated in the Thanksgiving pie sale, the secret silent auction, the Zak’s ‘Betty White’ hamburger sale and the Christmas community market.

Over the past 10 years, St. Frances Animal Rescue has also been a success because of the commitment of majority of community members to assure that their animals are neutered or spayed. This commitment has essentially eliminated the feral cat problem in Wrangell. No longer are cats crawling out of garbage cans and making a smelly mess in the downtown corridor. Thank you for your continued commitment to containing the feral cat problem and a potential overpopulation of dogs through the altering of your pets. We encourage you to take advantage of our half-off spay/neuter program.

St. Frances has cats available for adoption posted on our St. Frances Animal Rescue, Wrangell Facebook page. If you would like to meet those kitties, call or email Joan at 907-874-4593 or jjsargent143@gmail.com for an appointment. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Klinke shelter is not open to the public and a number of the kitties are in foster care.
