Family Fishing Day to feature activities for young and young-at-heart

Bring a fishing pole and plenty of enthusiasm to Pats Lake for an annual event sure to lure in the whole family.

Family Fishing Day on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will have something for everyone, from lure making to casting practice and even a free lunch.

The U.S. Forest Service Wrangell District is hosting the event along with the Wrangell Cooperative Association’s Indian General Assistance Program and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Special youth fishing regulations will be in place the third and fourth Saturday and Sunday at Pats Lake, June 17 and 18 and then again June 24 and 25. During those two days, kids 16 and under only can use bait to fish in the lake and keep two cutthroat trout per day with no size limit, according to Fish and Game.

The Stikine Sportsmen Association is sponsoring lunch and prizes.

Along with the fishing fun, there will be activity stations such as fish prints, games, door prizes and trash picking.

Some fishing gear and personal floatation devices will be provided, though quantities are limited.
