Pool reopens for community use after 9-month closure

The swimming pool reopened Monday after being closed since last November for repairs.

The almost nine-month closure originally was due to a crack in the concrete near the center of the pool, causing it to leak about 3,000 gallons a day. Finding a contractor and finding other problems that needed work added to the closure.

White Enterprises took on the repair job in mid-March, which entailed not only new concrete patching, but tiling and epoxy work among other repairs.

During the closure, the Parks and Recreation Department’s water aerobics, other therapy classes, swim club and open swims were put on hold. In that time, the parks and recreation department was able to make other changes and upgrades to the heating and ventilation system and the building.

According to a notification posted by Parks and Recreation on Facebook and sent out via an email list, the regular swim schedule would be posted on the department website “ASAP.”

The department also noted that open swim registration will have an online platform and a link and directions would be posted soon. Other tips were:

“Swimmers must take a full shower prior to swimming; Do not swim with open/weeping sores and/or wounds; no cell phones (or cameras) in the locker rooms or in the pool; shoes off in the locker room entrance; follow the pool rules. Great behavior expected. Swimmers 6 years and under must be supervised by a guardian 14 years or older during the swim; swimmers 6 years and under swim for free.”
