Getting ready for start of classes

Lilee Gadd picked up a backpack for her sister, Alee, while Teresa Flores (behind Lilee) helped her daughter choose from the wide selection as a steady line of parents and children did the same at the annual WCA/Tlingit and Haida backpack distribution on Thursday morning, Aug. 14, at the Nolan Center. It is the 21st year for the program run by the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. The tribal nonprofit this year gave away more than 2,000 backpacks across Southeast.
