Senator comes to town
Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan (center) made a short visit to Wrangell last weekend, meeting with Mayor Patty Gilbert, Public Works Director Tom Wetor (left) and Economic Development Director Kate Thomas (not pictured) on Sunday at City Hall. Borough officials briefed the senator on the community’s economic development efforts, particularly its request for federal funding to develop an industrial deepwater port and privately run shipyard at 6-Mile. Sullivan, a Republican, is seeking reelection to a third term this year, facing former Alaska U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola, a Democrat, and several lesser-known challengers.
