Miss Helene J. Sloane and Mrs. Maudeen Fisher arrived on the steamer Alaska on Monday night to fill an engagement at the Starland Theater. Many friends of Miss Sloane, a dramatic soprano and reader, welcome her return to Wrangell. She brings a double attraction this year in the person of Maudeen of Kansas City, whose beautiful mezzo soprano voice under perfect control has won words of praise and administration not only from music lovers but from the theatergoers in general.

An announcement was made in Ketchikan on Wednesday by Walter McCall, business agent for ILWU purse seiners, that negotiations for seine fish prices had broken down and the negotiating committee had rejected the canned salmon industry offer and were preparing to place picket lines at all Southeast Alaska canneries unless an early settlement is reached. The strike is set for tomorrow. Locally, the strike would affect about 100 employees of the Farwest Wrangell Cannery. These are employed in the cannery and on traps at various stations near here.

A month after the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced restrictions on bag and possession limits on king salmon for nonresident anglers, the department unexpectedly repealed the restrictions and increased the annual limit for nonresidents to three kings, 29 inches or more in length. Asked reasons for the sudden turnaround, Dean Beers, state sportfish biologist from Petersburg, said the department recalculated the abundance of king salmon and determined that the weight or importance given to the West Coast Vancouver Island hatchery kings, which have failed to return for the past two years, had thrown the model off balance. The model used to calculate annual abundance was built when the treaty process began between Canada, Oregon, Washington and Alaska.
